We continue to celebrate Sky Sports 25th birthday this week, by looking back at some of the most memorable moments from the last quarter of a century. One such highlight came in 1997, when the British and Irish Lions defied their underdogs billing to stun world champions South Africa. The Lions were coached by Ian McGeechan and Jim Telfer and managed by Fran Cotton. England lock Martin Johnson was appointed captain. McGeechan was concerned by the squads professionalism and therefore took along six former rugby league players in order to fast-track the discipline. The victorious 1997 Lions team The series is viewed as one of the greatest tactical successes in Lions history, due to a number of unusual selections.Paul Wallace and Tom Smith emerged as surprise problems for the giant South African front row, while Jeremy Davidson partnered Johnson at lock. John Bentley had only recently returned from rugby league but was given the right-wing berth - nine years after his last England cap - and Neil Jenkins was given the full-back jersey to ensure his kicking prowess was available. The Lions played eight warm-up matches around South Africa, suffering only one defeat - a 35-30 loss to Northern Transvaal in Pretoria. Take a look back at the best moments from our 25 years of rugby union coverage on Sky Sports As the first Test approached, the Lions were seen as massive outsiders. However, the tourists turned in a performance that shook the world, Jenkins justifying his inclusion by kicking five penalties before an Alan Tait try and Matt Dawsons outrageous dummy gave them a shock opening victory by 25-16.An easy 52-30 win in Bloemfontein against Free State gave the Lions confidence going into the second Test, as they hoped to emulate their victory a week before. The South Africans were licking their wounds and came out all guns blazing. Tries from Joost van der Westhuizen, Percy Montgomery and Andre Joubert set South Africa up but their place-kicking was atrocious and they failed to convert any of the tries. Jeremy Guscott kicks the winning drop goal in the second Test at Kings Park in Durban They were also failing to land any penalty points, unlike the Lions who once again benefitted from the perfect boot of Jenkins who kicked five penalties for the second successive Test. With the scores level at 15-15 late in the match, Jeremy Guscott landed a match-winning drop-goal to guarantee the series victory.Another comfortable 67-39 midweek victory over Northern Free State gave the squad confidence that they could go on and complete a series whitewash. However, as the final Test drew closer, many players picked up injuries. Five changes were made to the team but those who started were still recovering from their heroic efforts of the previous two Tests.South Africa scored four tries to the Lions one and finally exorcised their kicking demons to run out 35-16 winners and prevent the embarrassment of losing all three Tests. But the Lions were still able to open the champagne to toast one of the greatest successes in their history.1997 Lions tourMay 24 v Eastern Province XV W 39-11May 28 v Border W 18-14May 31 v Western Province W 38-21June 4 v Mpumalanga W 64-14June 7 v Northern Transvaal L 30-35June 11 v Gauteng Lions W 20-14June 14 v Natal W 42-12June 17 v Emerging Springboks W 51-22June 21 v South Africa W 25-16June 24 v Free State W 52-30June 28 v South Africa W 18-15July 1 v Northern Free State W 67-39July 5 v South Africa L 16-35 Also See: McCaw backs Schmidt for All Blacks Wade faces Olympic headache Weekend menu on Sky Sports Follow @SkySportsRugby Gerald Green Jersey .J. -- Travis Zajac of the New Jersey Devils took a lot of grief considering his scored the first of his career-best three goals just 12 seconds into a crucial game against the Florida Panthers. Claudio Ranieris side moved five points clear of nearest rivals Tottenham thanks to Shinji Okazakis 25th-minute overhead kick with just eight games remaining.Victory moved Leicester 11 points clear of Arsenal and 12 points ahead of Manchester City, who both have a game in hand on the league leaders. Ronald Koeman was a guest alongside Jamie Carragher on Monday Night Football However, Southampton manager Ronald Koeman, speaking on Monday Night Football, insists both Arsenal and Manchester City are now out of the title race following Leicesters win.It will be a fight between Tottenham and Leicester, the Dutchman said.In my opinion, thats the difference between before and after this result. Its a new situation for Leicester. Eleven points from Arsenal, 12 points from Manchester City, they are out of the title.Sky Sports pundit Carragher agreed with Koeman, saying both Arsenal and Manchester City are not in good enough form to challenge Leicester and Tottenham. Its not just the points, its how those teams are playing, the former Liverpool defender said. Theyre not playing very well. Arsenal are now 11 points behind league leaders Leicester You look at the difference to Tottenham and Leicester, they are playing well. They look like title winners with the performances they are giving. You look at Arsenal with the cup problem, Manchester City at Norwich. They dont look like teams that are going to go on and win the title.I think that gap now is too far. Theres too much for tthem to do.dddddddddddd Sergio Aguero reacts to a missed chance as Man City dropped points at Norwich Koeman, who was a guest on MNF, is no stranger to success in title races, winning 11 league titles during his time in football, eight as a player and three as a manager. And with a first league title in their history now firmly in their sights, the Dutchman thinks Leicester will be under even more pressure.Tottenham are still close, but its now a fight between two teams, Koeman added. Shinji Okazakis overhead kick sent Leicester five points clear at the top. Before this game, it was still a fight between four or five. Thats the difference and it starts to run in your mind as a Leicester player. When asked if that will pile even more pressure on Leicester, Koeman replied: Yes, because you are closer to winning the title. That makes a big difference. Before today, the manager was still mentioning the Europa League but after the result, they have Champions League. Now its about second or first place. Thats the title and its a different situation to what it was before the game.
