BOSTON -- Hours after a devastating blow to the Los Angeles rotation, the Angels were reassured and relieved by rookie starter Matt Shoemaker. Shoemaker threw 6 2-3 inning of no-hit ball and the Angels held on for a 2-0 victory against the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night, completing a four-game sweep and taking a two-game lead in the AL West. "I didnt even really know or think about it until about the fifth or sixth," Shoemaker said. "It was just one of those things -- work and focus on pitches, whos coming up and then you realize where they are in the order." The only hit Shoemaker (12-4) allowed was a double to Will Middlebrooks with two outs in the seventh. It was the only hit Boston got all night and welcome timing for the Angels, whose bullpen was weary with a cross-country flight ahead and huge series opening at Oakland on Friday. The Angels were also dealing with confirmation that Garrett Richards (13-4) is out for the season with a knee injury that occurred Wednesday while covering first on a potential double play. "I think its really uplifting. I think its important. Theres going to be a lot of attention on our rotation obviously with Garrett not going to be part of it," manager Mike Scioscia said. "You cant say enough about what Matty did tonight." Shoemaker struck out nine before a two-out walk to Mookie Betts in the eighth ended his night. It was the only walk for Shoemaker, who struck out nine. Jason Grilli pitched the ninth for his 12th save of the season and first with the Angels since coming to Los Angeles in a deal with Pittsburgh on June 27. The Angels have won four straight and eight of nine, taking a two-game lead over the As into this weekends series at Oakland. Josh Hamilton hit an RBI double in the first and Kole Calhoun hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh for Los Angeles only other run. It was all the offence the Angels needed. Shoemaker said he was thinking about Richards (13-5) as he warmed up Thursday. "Up until gametime, it was really heavy on my mind. During the game, I was trying to focus on pitching which I think was good thing because thats what G does," he said. "Its a detrimental loss to us but were all going to fight hard to pick him up and were just going to keep getting stronger from it." Rubby De La Rosa (4-5) pitched 6 2-3 innings, allowing two runs eight hits and getting himself out of a couple of jams as he tied his career high with eight strikeouts. Boston was able to cut off potential rallies for the Angels in the first and seventh, holding them to run in each and staying within reach throughout Shoemakers no-hit bid. "We couldnt get anything going against him. Hes been very consistent for them," Boston manager John Farrell said. CRUISING After hitting Boston leadoff batter Brock Holt, Shoemaker retired 20 straight before facing Middlebrooks with two outs in the seventh. Shoemaker is the first Angels rookie with 12 wins since Ervin Santana went 12-8 in 2005. EARLY NIGHT Angels 1B Albert Pujols was thrown out in the sixth after striking out and getting all the way back to the dugout. Scioscia said he hadnt heard Pujols say anything worthy of getting tossed and went to the plate to argue with umpire Andy Fletcher, who tossed the Los Angeles manager, too. TRAINING ROOM Angels: The Angels announced after the game that Richards will have surgery on Friday. The Angels selected the contract of left-hander Wade LeBlanc, from Triple-A Salt Lake and placed Richards on the 60-day DL to make room on the 40-man roster. Red Sox: LF Yoenis Cespedes left the game after three innings for an undisclosed personal reason, the Red Sox said. Manager John Farrell said after the game that it was a family emergency, but could not elaborate. Boston activated Allen Craig (sprained left foot) from the 15-day disabled list and started him at 1B Thursday night. UP NEXT Angels: LHP Hector Santiago (3-7, 3.46 ERA) gets the start in the AL West showdown as the Angels open a weekend series at second-place Oakland. Red Sox: RHP Joe Kelly (0-1, 5.2 9) tries again in his second start at Fenway Park as a member of the Red Sox when they open a weekend series against Seattle. Kelly was tagged for seven run on seven hits in four innings Sunday in a loss to the Houston Astros. Yeezy 700 V2 Static Italia . Yeezy Boost 380 Italia .com) - Robert Upshaw made a putback jumper to put 17th-ranked Washington ahead with 1:27 remaining in the game and the Huskies held on to beat Eastern Washington 81-77 on Sunday. MIAMI -- LeBron James set the tone pregame. Dwyane Wade took over in the fourth quarter. And the Miami Heat got a win they desperately wanted. Wade scored 13 of his 22 points in the final period and led a critical 12-0 run down the stretch, James led all scorers with 23 points and the Heat clinched a playoff spot by beating the Washington Wizards 99-90 on Monday night to snap a three-game losing streak. "We needed a win," Wade said. "We needed this win." Chris Bosh scored 22 for the Heat (44-17), who moved within one game of Indiana (46-17) in the race for the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and 1 1/2 games behind San Antonio (46-16) for the leagues best record. Ray Allen added 13 for Miami, which was coming off a trip where it lost at Houston, San Antonio and Chicago, the last of those coming in a late collapse on Sunday. Wade hasnt typically played back-to-backs this season. He did this time, and the Heat simply rolled with him in the final minutes on the way to avoiding what would have been their first four-game slide since 2011. "He made the right plays," James said. Bradley Beal scored 18 points, Martell Webster added 17 and Drew Gooden scored 15 for the Wizards. Marcin Gortat finished with 14 points and a career-high-tying 18 rebounds -- 10 of them in the first quarter alone. John Wall finished with eight assists for Washington. "Im proud of our guys," Wizards coach Randy Wittman said. "They kept battling, working. We didnt shoot it the way were capable of. We got some good looks. We shared the ball. We attacked the whole game." Washington led 84-83 midway through the fourth, when Wade took over. A three-point play put Miami ahead to stay and he then had assists on Miamis next three baskets -- a short jumper and then a 3-pointer from Bosh, then a layup by James. Wade capped the run with a score of his own, on the way to his first 13-point, three-assist fourth quarter since Feb. 18, 2009. His 13 in the fourth marked his highest-scoring quarter this season, and came with him playing consecutive days for the first time since Jan. 4 and 5. It was only the third time all season hes appeared in both nights of a back-to-back. Both teams shot only nine free throws; despite bbeing in attack mode, James didnt shoot one for the second straight game, just the second time thats happened in his career, the first coming in December 2003, early in his rookie season.dddddddddddd "Very surprised," James said. James went scoreless for a stretch of nearly 15 minutes in the first half, and still easily led everyone with 19 points by intermission. The entirety of his first-half scoring came in two impressive spurts -- three 3-pointers in as many tries over a span of 2:43 early in the game, then 10 straight Heat points in a stretch of 3:23 late in the half. "I felt good about this game the minute, the second I saw LeBron come into the gym today," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "We had an early walkthrough and he ran in the gym. Came up to every single person, player and coach and shook everybodys hand and said, Lets go. Lets get ready for this game. Thats what leaders do." Miamis lead was 12 early in the third before Washington went on a 10-0 run, with Gortat scoring the first eight and Trevor Bookers jumper getting the Wizards within 59-57. And after Miami rebuilt the lead to seven, Washington took off on another quick burst, this one enough to give the Wizards their first lead since 1-0. In less than 2 minutes, Washington outscored Miami 11-0, Webster scoring six in 25 seconds. He head-faked James in the air to start what became a four-point play, then had an alley-oop dunk off a Wall pass on the next possession as Washington took a 65-64 lead. "I think we match up with those guys perfect," Wall said. "We battle those guys." Allen had two 3s for the Heat late in the third, and it was 73-all entering the fourth. The Wizards scored only 17 points in the final 12 minutes. "We saw a few things," Wade said, "and we were able to take advantage."
