BUDAPEST, Hungary -- Canada will play for gold at the under-18 womens world hockey championship. Team captain Lauren Wildfang scored in overtime Saturday to lift the Canadians to a 1-0 victory over Russia in the semifinals. Canadian coach Laura Schuler was pleased with her players poise throughout a tense game that she said was the perfect preparation for Sundays gold-medal match. "The Russians played absolutely outstanding, and I think that their level of play really forced us to bring our game to a new level, and I was really happy with that," Schuler said. "Obviously, being in such a tight game, for us we faced some adversity and it was good pressure to have before going into the gold-medal game, to face that kind of adversity, that kind of pressure." The Canadians will face the winner of Saturdays other semifinal between the United States and the Czech Republic. Canada beat the Czechs 5-0 in the preliminary round. The Canadians, who earned a bye into the semis, outshot the Russians 70-24, but couldnt put anything past Russias netminder Valeria Tarakanova through 60 minutes of regulation. "We had numerous, numerous chances to put the puck in the net and their goalie played outstanding," Schuler said. "For us on the bench, we knew it was just going to be a matter of time before we were able to capitalize, and just really happy with the energy on the bench overall. The kids knew it, they came off each shift with smiles on their faces, like Aw, we almost had it there. I think that helped us going into overtime, just building our energy. "I was just happy with how they responded, they embraced the challenge and they just kept believing. It was great to see." Wildfang finally scored the winner 3:09 into overtime. "We were all crashing the net, and I took a shot and I just got my own rebound and it trickled in," Wildfang said. "Throughout the whole game, we stuck to our systems and I think thats why we became successful today. We didnt lose sight of the goal and we didnt lose sight of our game plan." Shea Tiley got the shutout for Canada. Chandler Parsons Jersey.Y. - Referee Ed Hochuli referred to replay official Tom Sifferman by his nickname Jungle Boy, which was heard on the in-stadium microphone during the Arizona Cardinals-Carolina Panthers NFC wild-card game Saturday. Moses Malone Jersey. A groundswell for raising the number of playoff qualifiers to seven in each conference figures to get plenty of support from the 32 owners. Most notably, Arizonas Bill Bidwill, who saw his Cardinals go 10-6 and not get in, while Green Bay (8-7-1) qualified by winning the NFC North. Clint Capela Jersey. Barnard, 28, was 1-0 with a 0.53 ERA in three appearances, including two starts, with San Angel o this season. He struck out 19 batters and walked just one in 17 innings pitched. He has previous American Association experience with the Lincoln Saltdogs, El Paso Diablos and Amarillo Sox.Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney believes Wichita Wingnuts outfielder Brent Clevlen is this years American Association MVP and teammate Jake Kahaulelio is a close second. Saturday night in front of 5,839 partisan Goldeyes supporters at Shaw Park, Clevlen homered and doubled and Kahaulelio drove in the winning run, as the Nuts edged the Goldeyes 4-3 to win their seventh straight game and lock up another series on the road. "I really believe Clevlen and Kahaulelio are two of the Top 4 or 5 hitters in the league," Forney said, after his team lost its third straight game on Saturday night. "I think Clevlen is the MVP of our league, but were going to have to find a way to get him out. Right now, our pitchers are having a tough time getting either one of them out. "And yet, for the second straight night, we lost a one-run game to them. Theyre just doing a little bit more than we are." With the loss, the Goldeyes fell to 47-32 on the season, still first in the American Associations North Division. With the win, Wichita improved to 55-23, the best record in the league. The Goldeyes opened the scoring for the second straight game. In the bottom of the fourth, Donnie Webb led off with a single went to third on a single by Tyler Kuhn and scored on a ground out by Casey Haerther. Wichita tied it in the top of the fifth, as former Detroit Tigers outfielder Brent CClevlen hit a long solo homer into the trees in left-centre field.dddddddddddd The Wingnuts made it 2-1 in the sixth on a solo homer by Ryan Khoury and then Winnipegs Jake Blackwood tied the game at 2-2 with a solo homer leading off the seventh. Wichita put it away in the eighth as Jake Kahaulelio hit a two-run double off Goldeyes starter Ethan Hollingsworth. That ended Hollingsworths night and gave the Nuts a 4-2 lead. The Fish added a run in the bottom of the eighth, as Kuhn singled, went to second on a walk to Haerther and made it to third on a shot to the wall in left field off the bat of Reggie Abercrombie that was caught right against the fence by Wichitas Jake Luce. The next hitter, Josh Mazzola, drove one to the warning track for a sacrifice fly that scored Kuhn. But thats as close as the Fish would get. Wichita reliever Mike Zouzalik (2-0, 3.27 ERA) got credit for the victory, while Hollingsworth (6-1, 3.94 ERA), who pitched a solid 7 2/3 innings and allowed just four runs on seven hits, suffered the hard-luck loss. Fireballing Matt Nevarez, pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to get his league leading 22nd save. The Goldeyes and Wingnuts will meet in the final game of this four-game series on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at Shaw Park. Tim Brown (3-3, 4.04) will get the start for the Wingnuts, while Chris Salamida (5-3, 3.41 ERA) will take to the bump for the Goldeyes. Wholesale Jerseys ' ' '
