TORONTO - Just days after locking up star point guard Kyle Lowry, the teams top offseason priority, the Raptors are following suit with restricted free agent forward Patrick Patterson. Although the deal cannot be made official until the free agent moratorium period is lifted on July 10, Patterson has agreed to a three-year, $18 million extension to remain in Toronto, sources confirm to TSN.ca Friday afternoon. Patterson, 25, was acquired in the seven-player deal that sent Rudy Gay to Sacramento in December and played a significant role in the Raptors resurgence last year. One of the leagues premier reserves at his position following the trade, the fourth-year forward appeared in 48 games for Toronto, starting seven, and averaging 9.1 points, 5.1 rebounds while shooting 48 per cent from the field and 41 per cent from three-point range. As a restricted free agent, the Raptors could have matched any offer Patterson received on the open market but retaining him was a priority for general manager Masai Ujiri and something he moved on quickly after agreeing to terms with Lowry late Wednesday night. Patterson figured to draw a fair amount of interest from teams around the league after jumpstarting his young career in Toronto. Although he struggled to begin the year with the Kings, Patterson emerged as a versatile, two-way player that can stretch the floor at the power forward position. He became especially valuable as starter Amir Johnson began to wear down, battling a myriad of injuries late in the season. Patterson, often the first player off the bench last year, is expected to have a bigger role with the Raptors in 2014-15 and beyond. Toronto had a record of 42-22 following the early-season trade that made Patterson a Raptor, finishing the campaign with a franchise-best 48 wins and division title en route to a seven-game, first round defeat in the playoffs. Shortly after extending the contract of head coach Dwane Casey in May, Ujiri expressed his desire to keep his team, one that exceeded all expectations a year ago, together going forward. "As far as Im concerned, keeping our core group going forward, with Kyle Lowry, Greivis Vasquez and Patterson and Nando, those guys are priorities for us," the Raptors GM had said. "And if you want to build, I think a team where we have young players, we have to build continuity. When free agency comes, we have to attack our guys first." With that goal in mind the next order of business will be retaining Vasquez, also a restricted free agent, expected to be done soon. In an effort to create the cap space required to complete a deal with the back-up point guard and perhaps add another piece while maintaining future flexibility and avoiding luxury tax penalties, the Raptors have also traded veteran sharpshooter Steve Novak to the Utah Jazz, reports Yahoo Sports. Toronto will send a future second-round selection to the Jazz as a sweetener and take back the non-guarantted contract of guard Diante Garrett, who will be immediately waived, in order to unload the $7.2 million Novak is owed over the next two years. After the Lowry and Patterson signings are made official and assuming guards Julyan Stone and Dwight Buycks are also waived (their deals are non-guaranteed if voided before July 7 and July 22 respectively), the Raptors will have roughly $62 million committed to 10 players under contract for next season, not including Vasquez, free agent guard Nando De Colo and rookies Bruno Caboclo, Lucas Nogueira or DeAndre Daniels. Even after signing their rookies and inking Vasquez to a new deal, the Raptors should be able to use most of their mid-level exception to address another need on the roster and remain under the salary cap. Aided by the trade of Novak, Toronto should have max or near max cap space next summer, with only Lowry, Patterson, DeMar DeRozan, Jonas Valanciunas, Terrence Ross and this years rookies on their books for the 2015-16 season. Novak was acquired in the trade that sent Andrea Bargnani to New York a year ago. The 31-year-old forward and three-point shooting specialist averaged 3.3 points in 54 games with the Raptors last season, his eighth in the NBA. Nike Air Max 90 Womens Australia . Granada defender Diego Mainz barged into the back of Villa to send the Spain striker to the ground inside the area and Costa stepped up to the spot to score his 12th league goal in the 38th minute. Costa showed no effects of the news that his Brazilian citizenship may be revoked after he elected to play for Spains national team, as the forward was a constant threat for Atletico and forced several saves from goalkeeper Roberto. Jimmy Howard made 44 saves and Henrik Zetterberg scored two goals, leading the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-1 victory over the Dallas Stars on Saturday night. Zetterberg, Joakim Andersson and Drew Miller scored in the first period goals for Detroit. Tomas Tatar added one in the second, and Zetterberg finished the scoring in the third. "When the clock struck midnight the other night to end 2013, I put everything behind me," Howard said. "I just said, Heres a new clean slate and lets start fresh, and Ive been trying to do that." In the first three months of the season, Howard had a 6-9-7 record. Hes now 1-0-1 in 2014, with only three goals allowed in 125 minutes. "Its been a while since Ive had a game like this for the guys," Howard said. "They deserve a lot of them out of me so this is going to be the first of many for me down the stretch." Dallas outshot the Red Wings 45-27, but also gave the puck away 17 times -- compared to four by the Red Wings. Dallas also went 0 for 7 on the power play. "It wasnt pretty by any means but we found a way," Howard said. "We capitalized on our chances here tonight and our captain (Zetterberg) was good tonight, too." The Stars had a 20-13 advantage on shots in the first period, but trailed 3-1. They had the games first 12 shots, but Zetterberg scored the first goal on the Red Wings first shot at 7:04. After Gustav Nyquist whiffed on a shot, Dallas goalie Dan Ellis tried to clear the puck. It went out to Zetterberg, who didnt miss his shot. "When Zetterberg got on the board, I thought we got it going," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said. Zetterberg has 14 goals this season, including three goals and three assists in four games since returning from a back injury. Dallas tied it on Rich Peverleys short-handed goal with 7:13 left in the period. He shot from the top of the left faceoff circle past both Shawn Horcoffs screen and Howard. "Howard made some real good saves," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. "There was a couple that I thought we could have had better traffic in front of him. We missed the net on some. "We would play well, be down in their end and then give up the puck and theyd go down and score." Detroits Justin Abdelkader missed a penalty shot with 5:58 left, skating to the left of the net and trying tto tuck the puck behind Ellis, but the goalie smothered it with his pads.dddddddddddd. Andersson put the Red Wings back ahead for good lead with a shot from the right circle over Ellis right shoulder with 1:55 to go in the first. Just 14 seconds later, Miller scored from a scramble in front. Dallas appeared to have a goal midway through the second period. Howard stopped Peverleys backhand shot but the puck came loose across the goal line after Peverley took another swipe at it. The play was ruled no goal. "It was a turning point, but at the same time, weve still got to fight through things," Peverley said. "We could have done a better job regrouping." The Red Wings took a 4-1 lead with 8:03 left in the second as Tatar split defenders at the blue line for a breakaway and his backhand went off Kari Lehtonen, who had replaced Ellis to begin the period, and into the net for an unassisted goal. "They had a lot of odd-man rushes," Horcoff said. "It wasnt the type of game we want to play. We want to be quick in transition, but we cant be giving away pucks like that. We cant be giving up quality shots. "A lot of our shots tonight were from the outside. We didnt get a lot of good second shots." The Stars had nothing to show for a period during which they had a 15-5 advantage in shots and three power plays. Zetterberg took a pass from Dan Cleary and one-timed the puck past Lehtonen from the left circle with 7:21 remaining. Dallas lost its second consecutive game, both at home, by a combined score of 11-5. NOTES: The Red Wings entered the game with the NHLs third-best road record, and improved to 13-4-3. ...
