EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Eli Manning will miss all of the New York Giants spring activities. General manager Jerry Reese said Thursday that Mannings left ankle surgery will keep him "out of spring ball." "We will not rush him back," Reese said. "We want him for the summer -- thats most important to us." Reese also expects Manning to bounce back from a poor season in which he led the NFL with 27 interceptions. "Eli is a smart guy. I think hes driven to prove last year was just an odd year for him," Reese added. Mannings primary backup last year, Curtis Painter, recently underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and is out for about a month. He could be back for the teams minicamp in June. Reese expects heavy competition for the backup quarterback job among Painter, last years draft pick Ryan Nassib, and Josh Freeman, signed in April as a free agent. Nassib did not throw a pass in his rookie season after the Giants selected him in the fourth round. "Well take a real good look at him," Reese said. "He didnt have the chance to play. Hell get a lot of work this spring." Reese was far less steadfast on third-year running back David Wilson, who comes off neck surgery. The Giants signed free agent Rashad Jennings away from Oakland, and the veteran entering his sixth NFL season could be the starter. "David Wilson is really kind of a bonus for us if we can get him back," Reese said. "Hes on schedule to be back." New York also picked up the fifth-year contract option on cornerback Prince Amukamara, the teams top selection in 2011. That move needed to be made by Saturday. Amukamara has been inconsistent as a pro and plagued by injuries. The Giants brought in cornerbacks Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Walter Thurmond as free agents. J. K. Scott Jersey . Walcott is available for Saturdays home match against Southampton as Arsenal looks to extend its two-point lead at the top of the Premier League. The Gunners are currently the second highest scorers in the league but Wenger insists Walcott will add something extra to his team. Randy Wright Jersey . So they rushed to re-sign the first baseman who general manager Ben Cherington described Friday as "a unique player." The World Series champions finalized a $32 million, two-year agreement Thursday with the slugging former catcher who turned into a surprisingly good defender. http://www.custompackersjersey.com/custom-billy-howton-jersey-large-132r.html. The whole deflation of New England Patriots footballs is like a murder mystery without the violence or significance. On one side, this is a ridiculous issue. Tobin Rote Jersey . For the Bombers it has been a combination of things coming together at the most inappropriate moments in time. Quarterback, injuries, Canadian talent or depth and leadership are all issues. Trust me when I say being a Bomber is no fun right now in a city that embraces football the way Winnipeg does. While Buck Pierce will be getting another shot, I think Max Hall does deserve another opportunity.Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Steve Vasturia scored five of his 11 points in the final 4 1/2 minutes to help 12th-ranked Notre Dame survive another challenge from Georgia Tech with a 62-59 win. Just 11 days after the Fighting Irish outlasted the Yellow Jackets in a double-overtime thriller in South Bend, Notre Dame (16-2, 3-1 ACC) overcame a 38-30 halftime deficit and the absence of second-leading scorer Zach Auguste due to a reported academic issue behhind a stifling defensive effort in the second half.dddddddddddd Georgia Tech (9-7, 0-4) was held without a field goal for over eight minutes after Corey Heywards 3-pointer with 8:14 remaining, and the Yellow Jackets went just 6-of-23 from the field after intermission. Vasturias layup with 4:16 left gave Notre Dame a 57-56 lead, while his 3- point play with just 8.8 seconds to go ensured the Irish would avoid a second consecutive defeat. ' ' '
