(SportsNetwork.com) - Two of the NBAs storied franchises have fallen on hard times, but theyll meet Sunday afternoon when the Los Angeles Lakers visit Madison Square Garden to face the New York Knicks. The Lakers are last in the Pacific Division, own the second-worst mark in the Western Conference and fourth-worst in the whole league. New York is last in the Atlantic Division, last in the Eastern Conference and have the second-worst record in the NBA. The Lakers begin a four-game eastern road trip with stops in Milwaukee, Orlando and Cleveland on the horizon. They closed a three-game homestand with a thrilling victory on Thursday. Without Kobe Bryant, who is gone for the season with a torn rotator cuff, the Lakers spoiled Pau Gasols return to Los Angeles thanks to a 123-118 double- overtime win over the Chicago Bulls. Jordan Hill had 26 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Lakers. LA squandered a 15-point second half advantage and a nine-point cushion late in regulation. Chicago didnt take it first lead until the early moments of the first overtime when Derrick Rose knocked down a 3-pointer at the 4:42 mark. Hill, though, sent the game into another extra session with a late jumper from the left wing in overtime and LA pulled away in the second OT. Wayne Ellington posted 23 points and five rebounds for the Lakers, who snapped a nine-game losing streak. Jordan Clarkson (1, Carlos Boozer (16), Jeremy Lin (11) and Ed Davis (10) rounded out the double-figure scorers. Our guys battled. Played extremely hard all night, Lakers coach Byron Scott said. Was happy with the teams poise and ability to bounce back in the OTs. The Knicks have won four of their last six, but last time out, they fell on the road to the Indiana Pacers, 103-82, Thursday. Not even a surprise start by Carmelo Anthony could keep the Knicks close. The All-Star forward was questionable on the second game of a back-to-back and finished with 18 points, but New Yorks defense did not duplicate its efforts over the past two weeks. We ran out of gas, to be honest, Anthony admitted. It was one of those nights where we took a step backwards. During a five-game stretch that saw them go 4-1, the Knicks allowed just 91.4 points per game -- more than 10 points fewer than their season average. The Knicks led by 11 early on, but they reverted back to their sieve-like ways against the Pacers, who scored 67 points during the second and third quarters on 63 percent shooting. Lou Amundson, who was signed for the remainder of the season, had 17 points and Tim Hardaway, Jr. finished with 11. The Lakers are 11-3 in their last 14 against the Knicks, but all three of New Yorks wins during that span came in the last three meetings at Madison Square Garden. Les Dodson Jersey Retro . The team said Saturday that the 36-year-old Robidas is expected to miss four to six months, jeopardizing his return this season. And yet as they left TD Garden amid the slush and snow of a winter storm on Thursday evening, there was a sense among the Leafs that they had finally stood toe to toe with their long-time bully, only to fall just short.PRETORIA, South Africa -- The defence team for Oscar Pistorius plans to close its case after its last witness, a physician who has treated the athlete, completed his testimony at the murder trial on Monday, a lawyer said. The end of testimony signals a new phase in the months-long trial of Pistorius, who killed girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in his home in what he has described as a mistaken shooting. It is expected to lead to a break during which the defence and prosecution prepare final arguments as the high-profile legal battle moves toward a conclusion. Barry Roux, the chief defence lawyer, indicated that he would wrap up on Tuesday morning after final consultations with his team. "We plan to close the case," Roux told Judge Thokozile Masipa. Pistorius, 27, has said he fatally shot Steenkamp, a 29-year-old model, through a closed toilet door after thinking there was an intruder in his home. The prosecution says Pistorius fatally shot Steenkamp after a Valentines Day argument last year. Earlier Wednesday, chief prosecutor Gerrie Nel said the last defence witness, physician Wayne Derman, could not be objective about the double-amputee runner because he was too familiar with the Paralympian, having treated him over many years and travelled with him extensively. Derman had testified that Pistorius had an anxious nature linked to his disability, bolstering the defence case that the runners allegedly deeep sense of vulnerability was a factor in the killing because, according to his version, he believed he was under threat.dddddddddddd Under questioning, Derman acknowledged that his testimony did not amount to a "forensic report" but disputed Nels assertion that he could not be objective. On Sunday, an Australian broadcaster showed video footage of Pistorius participating in a re-enactment of how he says events unfolded on the night he killed Steenkamp. In the video, Pistorius is seen walking on his stumps with an arm outstretched and fist clenched, as though holding a gun. It also shows Pistorius carrying a woman. It is unclear where the re-enactment was filmed. The broadcast by Channel Seven prompted criticism from a lawyer for Pistorius who said the re-enactment was made with the help of a U.S.-based company last year as part of the defence teams trial preparations. The video has not been shown at the trial, and it was not mentioned in court on Monday. Pistorius, who is free on bail, faces 25 years to life in prison if found guilty of premeditated murder, but he could also be sentenced to a shorter prison term if convicted of murder without premeditation or negligent killing. Additionally, he faces separate gun-related charges. Pistorius was born without fibulas, the slender bones that run from below the knee to the ankle. His lower legs were amputated when he was 11 months old. ' ' '
