If the Winnipeg Goldeyes intend to make the playoffs this year, theyll likely have to win every series for the rest of the season. Tuesday night they took a step toward winning the first one. Chris Salamida provided the Goldeyes with a quality start, while Kevin Moesquit, Luis Alen and Tyler Graham drove in the runs, as the Fish beat the Sioux City Explorers 3-1 in front of 5,579 at Shaw Park. With the win, in the first game of a three-game series against the Xs, the Goldeyes put a halt to a three-game losing streak and improved to 38-36 on the season. Winnipeg moved six games of the Gary SouthShore RailCats in the American Association wild card race. "Chris (Salamida) did a good job tonight," said Goldeyes manager Rick Forney. "Its what we needed from our starter. We didnt throw it very well on Saturday and Sunday and with our hitting starting slowly tonight, we needed a strong pitching performance from Chris. "We did a good job with our situational hitting in the seventh and eighth innings and we were able to push across enough runs to win." Sioux City opened the scoring in the fifth as Anthony Kaskadden singled home Sam Judah. But that was it for the Explorers. Winnipeg scored twice in the seventh as Casey Haerther led off with a double, went to third on a single by Fehlandt Lentini and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Moesquit. Later, with runners on the corners, Tyler Graham dropped a bunt single down the first base line, squeezing home Lentini from third to make it 2-1. In the eighth, Josh Mazzola singled, went to third on a single by Haerther and scored on a sac fly by Alen. The Fish had nine hits in the ball game, six of them in their final two at-bats. Mazzola, Haerther and Ryan Scoma all had two-hit nights. Scoma is now hitting .352 and has moved into second spot in the race for the American Associations batting title. Winnipeg starter Salamida (2-0, 3.26 ERA) got the win, while Sioux City starter Ryan Lucero (1-3, 4.83 ERA) took the loss. Patrick Keating (2.65 ERA) came on and picked up his 14th save of the season by pitching a quick, scoreless ninth. The Goldeyes and Explorers will play Game 2 of this three-game series on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Andy Noga (3-10, 6.33 ERA) will start for Sioux City, while Matt Rusch (5-3, 4.13 ERA) will head to the bump for Winnipeg. R. C. Owens Jersey . At a Manhattan federal court hearing, attorney Jordan Siev said his law office has gotten more evidence nearly every day to support its lawsuit accusing MLB and Selig of going on a "witch hunt" to ruin Rodriguezs reputation and career. He said the defendants went "way over the line. D.J. Jones Jersey . 9. Price, heading to the 2014 Olympics for Canada, was named the First Star after posting wins in three starts with a 1.00 goals-against average and a .971 save percentage. http://www.custom49ersjersey.com/custom-jeff-kemp-jersey-large-968d.html . Colin Wilson had two goals and an assist, and Mike Fisher scored a goal and helped set up two others in the Predators 6-4 victory over the Red Wings on Monday night. Ken Dorsey Jersey .Y. -- Paul Byron and Matt Stajan scored as the Calgary Flames started a five-game road trip with a 2-1 overtime win over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday afternoon. Ted Kwalick Jersey . PETERSBURG, Fla. Daniel Ricciardo maintains he has no sympathy for drivers who damage their cars on Austrias raised kerbs after more incidents on Saturday.Daniil Kvyats scary Q1 crash was one of three different rear suspension failures caused by the kerbs at the Red Bull Ring, placed on the edge of the circuit to prevent drivers exceeding track limits. Ricciardos teammate Max Verstappen complained about them on Friday after a failure of his own, while Lewis Hamilton called on the FIA to look for a solution after seeing teammate Nico Rosberg crash out of FP3.However, Ricciardo thinks drivers are being rightfully punished for trying to use the run off areas to their advantage.Asked if he had changed his mind after saying drivers should treat the kerbs like a wall on Friday, Ricciardo said: Not really. I am honestly treating it like a wall. I know that if I hit it I am likely to have a damaged car.It is not like a bullying scenario, I am not laughing at them, at DDanny or anyone that crashed, not at all.ddddddddddddBut for me I like that it is actually black and white. So many modern circuits, us drivers complain that you can run off and not pay a price, so this weekend we are paying a price.Sure the damage to the cars is quite severe, but it is the same if you hit a wall at a street circuit. In Baku I tore apart all the rear of my car [by hitting a wall].Ricciardo says the bright yellow kerbs -- which were a factor in Verstappen and Kvyats crashes -- should not be difficult for his fellow drivers to see on the circuit, especially if they know where they are on the circuit. They are visible; it is not like we cant see them. They are high enough and they are bright. So I honestly think that they are doing a good job, and I think it is a good compromise to keep us on the track. ' ' '
