The days of the Big Four in the Barclays Premier League are a distant memory this season and the current dogfight for supremacy at the top of the table is unlike anything seen in recent memory. That battle continues on Wednesday on TSN2 and TSN.ca with four matches all beginning at 2:45pm et/11:45am pt. On TSN2, David Moyess current club hosts his old one as defending champions Manchester United - unbeaten in 12 matches in all competitions - welcome Romelu Lukaku and surprising Everton. It all begins with Barclays Premier League Live at 2pm et/11am pt. On TSN.ca, Hull City - fresh off beating Liverpool for the first time in its history - looks to slay another giant, as they travel to the Emirates to take on Jack Wilshere and table leaders Arsenal. Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool hope to take out their frustrations from the weekends defeat at Hull on Norwich City when the Canaries visit Anfield. That match is also available on TSN.ca. Having been used to a two-team battle for the title and occasionally one with a third thrown into the mix, whats going on in the 2013-14 BPL season is almost unprecedented. Just 10 points separate Arsenal from ninth-place Tottenham. To put that into perspective, consider Europes other top leagues where in La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga, there is a minimum of a 20-point gap between first and ninth. United is one of those teams in the mix, but have to make up the eight points between them and from Arsenal while leaping over the six teams between them. It would have been foolish for anybody to expect United to not skip a beat after Sir Alex Fergusons retirement and Moyes taking the reins at Old Trafford, but the early season jitters appears to have abated. The team has been buoyed by the play of Wayne Rooney, arguably the best player in the BPL this season and scorer of both goals in Sundays 2-2 draw with Spurs, and the brilliant goalkeeping of David De Gea, whose game has evolved from the shakiness displayed in his first season in England just two seasons ago. That isnt to say, of course, that everything is on track. Injuries have been a major concern for the team with midfield general Michael Carrick (shin) and superstar striker Robin van Persie (groin) currently among those wounded, as well as an inability to close the door in recent matches with Cardiff City and Southampton. Van Persie, however, appears to be okay to return and may see pitch time against Everton. High-flying Everton will provide a stiff test for the champions. Roberto Martinez, hired to replace Moyes, has his Toffees sitting in fifth, level on points with Merseyside rivals Liverpool. Few expected such a lofty position for moderate-spending Everton, but a serious of shrewd loan moves has them with only has a single loss, the fewest of any team in the league. Lukaku, on loan from Chelsea, is among the league leaders in goals with eight, while Gerard Delofeu, loaned from Barcelona, starred in Saturdays 4-0 thumping of Stoke. United and Everton split their season series last year, each winning at home. At Anfield, Rodgers and Liverpool must continue to adjust to life without Daniel Sturridge. The England international suffered ligament straining in his ankle during training last Friday. Hes expected to be out for up to eight weeks. Still, Rodgers hopes that his team will step up in Sturridges absence. "This little period now will test us," said Rodgers. "Weve got players that will come in and its a great opportunity for them to stake a claim for a place in the team." The Reds failed that first test when they dropped a 3-1 decision to Hull City on Saturday, but will have the opportunity to get back on track against a Norwich City side looking for some consistency. Though coming off a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, Chris Hughtons Canaries have yet to win consecutive games this season. Hughton also must address the added distraction of a dissatisfied Luciano Becchio. The Argentine striker recently expressed his displeasure over his lack of usage by the team and suggested that he wouldnt mind playing elsewhere. While Liverpool attempts to make up lost ground, in London, Arsenal will attempt to grab some more breathing room at the summit of the BPL. The Gunners can pull seven points clear of idle Chelsea with a win over Hull.Arsenals 3-0 win at Cardiff on Saturday was propelled by two goals from Welshman Aaron Ramsey, who is enjoying a coming out party this season. "He was phenomenal," said Gunners manager Arsene Wenger of Ramsey. "He keeps surprising me. He has matured as a player and as a person. He can still develop. When you see the improvement in him in the last two years then why should he stop now?" But Steve Bruces Hull City will not be a soft touch for Arsenal. Fresh off their first win over Liverpool in the teams 109-year history, the Tigers will be hungry to knock off another top side, after already having beaten Newcastle. China Jerseys Custom . According to a report from ESPN, sources said Manuels college coach Jimbo Fisher told teams he didnt think Manuel had the tools to be an NFL starter.TORONTO - While England seems destined for "massive change" in the wake of its failed World Cup campaign, Jermain Defoe says he can still contribute goals to the national cause. "Ill never turn my back on my country," the Toronto FC striker told reporters after training Wednesday. "Like I mentioned before I still feel like Ive got a lot to offer. If I didnt feel that way, Id say theres no point because youre not doing anyone any favours if youre sort of like being selfish (and) you havent got much to offer. "But I still feel strong, I feel sharp. So hopefully at some point Ill get called up (again). How I feel at the minute, Im still ready to play and score goals for my country." The 31-year-old Defoe, who has 19 goals in 55 appearances for his country, was named to Englands 30-man World Cup roster but did not make the final 23. At the time, he said he was devastated by the snub. England (0-2-1) finished last in Group D behind Costa Rica, Uruguay and Italy, managing to score just two goals. "Spain are out, Italy are out," Defoe said. "Some big nations are out but obviously it would have been nice to see (England) progress to the later stage of the tournament. But it wasnt meant to be. A lot of young players, they still have opportunities again to play in tournaments and Im sure theyll do well. But this year it wasnt meant to be. It was a tough group." England captain Steven Gerrard and vice-captain Frank Lampard have said they will take some time to ponder their international future. Veteran fullback Ashley Cole opted to retire prior to the tournament. Veteran midfielder Michael Carrick was also left out of the England squad. "I think its a change," Defoe said, "because obviously theres so many young players coming through — good young players. Obviously theyre inexperienced but theyll get experience with games and I suppose thats what the manager wanted to do when he left me out, Michael Carrick, Ashley Cole, hhe wanted to go with the younger players.dddddddddddd. "Hopefully theyll do well but its going to be a massive change ... but well see what happens." Meanwhile, Defoe said he did not take offence at former manager Harry Redknapp saying some of his England players at Spurs had tried to shirk national team duty. Current England manager Roy Hodgson and Gerrard both said Defoe should not be tarred with that brush. "Its difficult for me (to react) because Im not one those players," said Defoe. "Ive never missed a squad and obviously I dont know who those players are. At the end of the day, when youre playing for your country, its the greatest honour ... I always turned out for my country, even if I was half fit." Gerrard urged Redknapp to name names but the veteran manager, who now runs Queens Park Rangers, said it would not be fair to the players in question. Defoe was one of a dozen England players at Tottenham during Redknapps tenure. Toronto manager Ryan Nelsen, a former New Zealand international who played under Redknapp, said he thought the comments might have been taken somewhat out of context. Nelsen, who captained the All Whites, said he would be outraged if anyone suggested he didnt love playing for his country. But he said theres give and take when it comes to club versus country, acknowledging he had asked not to be picked for some friendlies when they were largely commercial ventures on the other side of the globe and they bumped heads with major club clashes. While he had hoped to be playing in Brazil, Defoe welcomed the MLS break during the group stage of the World Cup. Toronto gave its players eight days off following the 1-0 win over San Jose on June 7. Still he admitted to having "itchy feet," wanting to get back to playing. Toronto (6-4-1) returns to action Friday in New York against the Red Bulls (4-5-6). Nelsens only injury concerns are winger Daniel Lovitz (concussion) and Brazilian striker Gilberto (hip flexor).
